Amal Unbound by Aisha Saeed

Twelve-year-old Amal lives in a village in Pakistan. She loves reading, learning and hopes to one day become a teacher. But one day while on a trip to the market, she finds herself in trouble for accidentally insulting a member of the village’s ruling family. She is forced to leave her family and work on their estate in order to “pay her debts”. The story evolves and Amal continues to be a brave young girl, willing to stand up to injustice and bring about change. Young readers who have read and enjoyed “I Am Malala”, will enjoy this story. Although the ending is wrapped up rather quickly and perhaps a bit idealistic, this story is a wonderfully diverse story filled with a hopeful message.

  1. That sounds good, I have to say I’m glad it ended on optimistic note. So many try to go dark and realistic and just leave you feeling meh
