The Marriage Pact by Michelle Richmond

The recently-wed couple — she’s a successful lawyer who used to be a rock star; he’s a marriage and family therapist — decides to take up an offer from a new friend to become part of a group that purports to celebrate and encourage and celebrate marriages. But there are all these rules, and breaking the rules of the Pact results in punishments, and the demands of the secret society take them away from their jobs and (worse) each other, and the punishments seem like torture before they do in fact become torture. The premise of the book seemed interesting, and I was initially intrigued, but then it turned disturbing, and then it turned violent, and then it turned into one long chase scene unnecessarily riddled with menace and terror. I read this book so you won’t have to.
