The Perfect Nanny by Slimani, Leïla

Is Louise the loving and generous caretaker of the two children who plays with them, accommodates their every whim, and — when the kids are asleep — cleans the house (which is *not* part of her job description)? Or is she the confrontational shrew who argues with everyone in the neighborhood where she lives? Is she the confident woman who defends her wards when they are challenged in the playground, or is she the timid, scared woman who is afraid of water and hasn’t even learned how to swim? And then there is the more fundamental mystery of how the children end up dead.
