Another YA novel, another stretch past midnight to finish it. They are so consumable! I picked “Wrecked” at random because I liked the ambiguous title, which could, and did, have several meanings. The plot was intriguing, not least because it was about college-age students facing the date-rape question on campus. As a former college teacher, I was interested to see how the administration of the fictional Macallam College handled the judicial proceedings. But that’s not the essence of the book, which focuses on the dilemmas faced by Soccer Girl, Math Dude, Eco Woman, Doctor Feelgood, and others. Fogey Alert: two college students are in bed together by page 14. How times have changed from the teen angst I loved reading about in Beverly Cleary’s “Jean and Johnny”!
