Wild Bird by Wendelin Van Draanen

Fourteen-year-old Wren Clemmens has gotten herself into some serious trouble with drugs and after her behavior escalates her parents have her taken away to a wilderness therapy camp. Wren is angry and does not initially take ownership for her behavior, but as time goes on she begins to heal and work through her problems…even learning that it is okay to ask for help. A great option for teens looking for a hopeful substance abuse themed story that isn’t as intense as stories like “Beneath a Meth Moon” and others.

  1. I’d like to hear how it came across to someone who was a teen. So books that try to make a point sometimes come through wrong, it would be nice to find one I could recomend without coming across as naggy afterschool special
